Therapy & Mental Health Counseling in Fredericksburg

Therapy, mental health counseling, and psychotherapy are all terms used to describe talking with a trained clinician to help identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

People who seek therapy can struggle to verbalize and contend with emotional difficulties and finding someone to walk that path with you can be healing and hopeful. At Lighthouse Counseling of Fredericksburg, we strive to make our practice “A Place to find Hope” in a compassionate and validating environment.

Evidence-Based Care With A Human Approach

Lighthouse clinicians use a variety of evidence-based therapy practices. Depending on your needs and provider fit, treatment may draw from:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Trauma-informed approaches
  • Harm reduction
  • Motivational enhancement
  • Behavioral activation
  • Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Gender-affirming therapy

The goal is not to force every client into the same model. Your therapist will work with you to understand what is happening and what kind of support is most likely to help.

What To Expect

Therapy often begins with evaluation and conversation about your history, current concerns, goals, strengths, and preferences.

From there, you and your clinician build a treatment plan. That plan may focus on coping skills, emotional regulation, decision-making, relationship patterns, trauma recovery, reducing symptoms, or creating more stability in daily life.
